Our Story · Meet the Chef

Chef Tatiana built Peace of Mine the way she cooks — with intention.

Peace of Mine is a Black-owned, family-run market on 71st Street in Englewood, opened in 2018 by Chef Tatiana Winters and her husband. Tatiana trained as a chef, became a certified nutrition coach, and spent years building healthy-habits programs for kids across the South Side. Every smoothie, soup and Friday snack bag carries the mix that defines her work: culinary skill, lived experience, and the conviction that better food belongs everywhere.

Chef, nutrition coach, and a conviction that better food belongs everywhere.

Tatiana's story 1 / 3

Trained in the kitchen

Food has been Tatiana's work her whole adult life. She earned a Bachelor's in Culinary Management, then became a certified nutrition coach to learn not just how to make food taste good, but what it does for the body.

Teaching the South Side

For years she taught kids across the South Side what real food is and why it matters. In 2018 she opened Peace of Mine on 71st Street so the whole neighborhood could learn it too, right around the corner from home.

Her own turning point

Then her own health was tested. Facing kidney failure, she changed her diet completely, and after 90 days she was off dialysis. She has shared that journey on WGN-TV, and it sits at the heart of everything the shop does today.

Every smoothie, soup and snack bag starts here.

What We Stand For

More than a market

  • Whole food first

Whole fruits, real ingredients, and house spice blends that are vegan and low-sodium, with no additives.

  • Local & Black-owned

Our goal: 75% of what we carry locally sourced, and 90% from Black‑owned businesses.

  • Youth apprenticeships

Young people learn real kitchen skills here, from cooking to kitchen etiquette.

  • Neighbors first

From PB&J Fridays for kids to a free nutrition consult, good food should be within reach on our block.

PB&J Fridays — Free Snacks for Kids

Every Friday during the school year, between 3 and 6PM, Chef Tatiana hands out free snack bags to kids pre-K through 8th grade, right here at the shop. It's her own program, and every kid is welcome.

Runs during the school year, through the last day of school in June.
